@Paul

When you say your "server status was degraded" what was happening for you?

For one of my clients, thier PHP based Wordpress blog would go down. Anyone trying to surf to the blog were greeted with some arcane error "...to many processes. Try again later."

Yeah I feel your pain. Sadly the issue was not fixed in the new OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard update either. I really don't know what Apple is thinking ... or if they are even listening.

The only choices are, Entourage, or creating POP Mail.app account and leave the mail on the server. Then delete the IMAP accounts. But be warned ... do not delete the IMAP account until you move all your archived eMail folders from the IMAP account to the POP account. Otherwise you will loose that eMail.

It's funny I was just writing a comment on MacNN article <a href:"http://www.macnn.com/articles/09/09/04/first.snow.leopard.update.makes.min/" rel="nofollow">"Initial Mac OS X 10.6.1 details exposed"</a> when I got the eMail that you left a comment here. I've been trying with no luck to get one of the Mags to cover this. No one has picked up the story yet. I'll keep trying util someone takes notice.

It took me 5 separate tech support calls with Bluehost to find out why our server status was constantly "degraded"... Finally I got a tech who saw that I had 12+ IMAP connections open for over 8 hours. 4 Macs, 3 using Mail.app, 1 using Entourage.
